Why Your OTP Is Not Coming (and What to Try)

The most common reasons verification codes fail to arrive and practical fixes you can try right away.

Few things are as frustrating as waiting for a verification code that never shows up. The good news is that most failures have simple explanations.

The service blocks virtual numbers

Many large platforms keep lists of number ranges they know are virtual. When you enter one, they may silently refuse to send a code. Trying a different country or another service often helps.

Carrier delays

International SMS can pass through several carriers. Busy routes may delay a message by a minute or two. Wait at least sixty seconds before requesting a new code; requesting too often can trigger rate limits.

Rate limits on the sending side

If a number recently received many codes from the same service, that service may temporarily stop sending to it. A fresh number from another range usually solves this.

Typing mistakes

Double-check the country code and that you copied the full number. On SMS Free, use the Copy button to avoid errors.

The number expired

Temporary numbers only stay active for a short time. If the timer reached zero, request a new number and start the verification again.

When to stop trying

If a service repeatedly rejects virtual numbers, respect that. It may require a personal number for good reason, especially for financial or identity-sensitive accounts.
